Some pics

My blog posts seem to get further and further apart, but I can assure you that I am still here and plugging along. I'm busy with work and yes, believe it or not a semi-social life haha. The weather here in the state of Maine has been off and on, first we will have sub zero temps and snow, and just this week it got up to 40 degrees and we got 2 inches of rain almost melting all of the snow we had on the ground, it's very weird. Possum and all the other animals have been doing great. Possum continues to get better with every ride we do, his pace is much slower and he is listening much better. Now I just need to work on my equitation which has been lacking as of late. Everyone is happy and healthy which is all you can ask for.
I have had some questions about MN guy. Due to his situation we have started to talk less and less, I just think that it is better for me. If and when his situation changes things may be different, but I can't out myself in a place to be set up for failure. However, on a good note I have just started casually chatting with someone from ALASKA, I know I'm crazy, I can almost see everyone's eyes roll. It's actually all quite innocent and we have really hit it off. The other crazy part to this story is that he and his family have a TV show!!! I know, it's crazy. They have a neat show on RFD-TV called R5 Sons Alaska. It's about a lodge they they run for tourists and hunters and such and they also have 17 horses out there. The only way to get to the lodge is by bush plane usually from Anchorage. I enjoy the show very much, and the one I am talking to is Steve, the oldest son. He seems so sweet, he's my age, he loves the outdoors and horses and dogs and has no kids and never been married :) We are actually in the process of figuring out a time and place to meet sometime, I would love to go and check out Alaska, but we'll see how that goes. I have been heisitant in telling people that we talk cause it sounds a little corny and all, but we have been talking for over 2 months now and we're still not sick of each other which is a plus. Anyways, check out the show R5 Sons Alaska, they have a website for the show and they also have a fan page on Facebook, their a great family and I like supporting their show.

Here are a few pics that someone at the barn took of Possum and I jumping the other day. We don't look that great but we were jumping around 3'6" and he was doing great so that's all that matters. And yes, I was not wearing a helmet, it was my choice.

Yeah that Steve II is not bad lookin'!

This will sound bizarre, but during a very scattered dream last night you and Possum showed up. You had gotten a second horse and were bringing Possum to stay with me for a while. I have NO IDEA how you popped into the middle of a dream about my family visiting, me finally telling off a co-worker, and me suddenly living at my Uncle's old farm. It wasn't a long or detailed dream. You were just there saying "yeah, I put him out in the field with the other horses" and me looking out and seeing a black blanket appy (wtf) jumping over something in the field and saying "oh yeah, there he is" and that was it.

Random.

Really really really encourage you to wear a helmet. I just cannot follow your blog anymore knowing that you would post these pictures. You're not invincible. It takes ONE mistep, just ONE, and you're a vegetable. I hit my head hard earlier this year when I fell off just cooling my horse down because he got startled. WITH a helmet on I still suffered serious injuries and it took months to get back to normal. I just really encourage you to consider NEVER getting on your horse without one, it's so not worth it. Who would take care your beloved animals if you came off and cracked your skull? It's just selfish. I hope you seriously consider wearing one in the future.

You are too funny!! The fact that you looked out in the field and Possum was jumping something, that was pretty funny. Sometimes I have very random dreams too, it's crazy how our minds work.

And Yea, Steve II is the one I chat with, he is soooo nice. We Skype a lot so we get to see eachother, he has satellite internet at the lodge. The more I get to know him the more i like him, and his family sounds just awesome too!

you must tell me where to meet these interesting men from 'exotic' far away lands :) hehe. Your little app powers over some pretty big fences with what looks like very little effort. Awesome!

PS- helmet or no helmet... its totally your choice. free will IS a beautiful thing.

Wow - nothing like ditching a blog cause someone has pictures of someone else riding without a helmet.

Same here Molly - it's your choice. I have fallen off, been bucked off, and slid off many horses since I was a child - no helmet and I have never hit my head. But you know I may die tomorrow or "live life as a veggie" that is the chance we all take crawling up on a horse helmet or no.

PS - Shhhhhhh - I also don't wear a helmet when I drive! I know?! How dangerous is that considering your chances of getting into a car wreck are far greater than suffering a life ending head injury from riding.... :)

I LOVED your pictures! You got guts girl to go over those big jumps girl! And of course your pony look fantastic!

Possum makes that look easy! And how much do you love that arena? It looks so light and open! We have a covered arena out here in Seattle which is great. But I love the look of all that natural light!

It always drives me nuts when people post as anonymous when they criticize a blog post. I had a couple of people absolutely YELL at me in blog comments so I shut off the anonymous posting. If you feel so strongly about something that you need to say it, say it and claim it. Don't hide, it's passive aggressive.

That being said, I noticed your bare head, but I respect that you are an adult and can make your own choices. You know your risks. I'll still read your blog. :)

Cool! Things are never dull in your world! Us old married chicks need live vicariously through people like you... :-) Just googled Steve - he looks cute, outdoorsy - good for you! I hope you guys can meet sometime soon.

Great that you and Possum are doing well - as for the helmet thing - you are an adult... I wear one because it is the barn owner's rule for her insurance...and as a result, I've gotten used to wearing one. Whatever works, right?

I wouldn't want to see you get hurt, but you're right: it's your choice. I wear one all the time because I suck too bad not to LOL!

And you guys look great.

That's pretty cool about Steve. How did you happen to "meet" him? Sounds like a great guy.

Equestrian Definition of a Helmet:
Insurance. Helmet MUCH cheaper than an emergency room trip.

(no I'm not the Anon poster.. And I'm not afraid to voice my opinion)

And a question.... Why does dear Possum pin his ears at the fences? Is he listening to you, and we can't see it? He looks angry....

sidetracked said...

Possum has always pinned his ears when jumping fences, it's like he locks on the jumps and then attacks it. I've talked about this in previous posts as well. In certainly has never made for a pretty picture in the hunter ring, and a lot of the time he practically drags me to the jumps so it's not like he doesn't like jumping.

As for the helmet debate, wow I really appreciate everyones concern for my safety (or what seems like concern) But let me remind you that I DO know the risks, I AM aware of injuries and i have been hurt wearing and not wearing a helmet. And one of the resons why I love this country is because we have the freedom of choice over many things, and this just happens to be one of them. 20 years ago no one would bat an eye with a helmet less head. What about the western folks, or the saddleseat folks, or even gymkhana people who almost NEVER wear a helmet, are you going to boycott their blogs as well??? This topic has gotten a bit ridiculous and it's mostly about some people getting on their high horses and liking the feeling of talking down on people. I was browsing some major dressage barns with world class and olympic trainers and guess what not ONE of them wore a helmet, so you better not watch the olympics ever, especially dressage because they could go down at any moment and crack their head open. I do understand why it's a good idea to wear a helmet. I don't have a family or husband of my own that depend on me to survive, and as for my animal family family I can say with pride that arrangements have been made long ago on what to do with them if something were to happen to me. This is the mark of a RESPONSIBLE animal person. Thanks for all your comments and I'd like to drop this subject from here on out.

Hey - I didn't make ya mad did I?? I always jump to the defense of my friends, I didn't mean to start anything on your blog....

sidetracked said...

No, I'm not mad at all. I understand people's concern and just going to let it rest. As evidenced by the State Of The Uion Address last night, I think we all have more to worry about then people wearing helmets.
